Bearing an inscription of “Emma” this spoon can be tied to the birth of Adelicia’s fourth child by Isaac Franklin in 1844. The spoon has a Gordian knot motif which is usually associated with French flatware. The accompanying urn shaped baby cup bears examples of etched Rococo scrollwork. Those same motifs are repeated on the applied handle. This urn is a fine example of late neo-classical American silver. The interior of the cup and the bowl of the spoon are both gold-washed.
