Decorative Arts Symposium

This year we are pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Tennessee Decorative Arts Symposium: Characters and Chronicles on April 20th and 21st. You are invited to join scholars, collectors and historians as we examine and interpret the material culture and decorative arts of the South and Tennessee.

The theme for this year’s symposium focuses on the personalities, the “characters”, and important material culture that have been preserved as we celebrate Tennessee’s unique heritage. We are honored to have join us this year, noted scholar and Guest Lecturer Sumpter Priddy III who will share some of his insights and research on American decorative arts in our region.

Symposium guest speakers including will share specific examples and recent discoveries highlighting the stylistic changes in the decorative arts of Tennessee and their origins. We will also address the ever growing interest in the decorative arts of Tennessee and encourage the sharing of ideas and information among participants.

A VIP pre-symposium evening reception will be held at the Hermitage, home of Rachel and Andrew Jackson, on Friday, April 20th at 6:30 pm.

Registration is $125 and includes the pre-symposium reception, symposium and lunch at Historic Belmont Mansion, the day of the event.
